“Pre-Seed Call,” POR FESR Lazio 2014-2020
The Pre-Seed call, under the POR FESR Lazio 2014-2020, has funded over 100 projects, including innovative startups and research spin-offs, highlighting the great entrepreneurial potential of the region, particularly in research centers and universities.

The initiative has promoted the creation of innovative startups by supporting their early stages of development and encouraging the birth of research spin-offs, with the aim of strengthening the link between the academic and business worlds. The funds allocated for the call amount to 80 million euros, intended for venture capital and the financing of 170 projects involving both business and research. A total of 119 projects were approved, including 79 innovative startups and 40 research spin-offs. Among the funded projects is Sense4Med, which participated in the call with the Cl-Fast project, receiving a grant of €54,055. The project aims to develop and commercialize a miniaturized paper-based electrochemical sensor designed for fast and sustainable chloride ion analysis.

With over 15 years of experience in sensor research, the project seeks to translate the accumulated know-how into the creation of an innovative device ready for market launch.

By using paper as the substrate for the device, it is possible to combine the properties of paper with various printing techniques (screen printing, wax printing, and 3D printing), resulting in an analytical device suitable for user-friendly, low environmental impact chloride measurement, without the need for laboratory setup or the addition of chemical reagents (i.e., reagent-free). The fields of application for this device include both agrifood and biomedical sectors.
